
• Member of cooperative, a group called “Run out of Poverty” in Luganda
• 2003 group started with 30 members
• Head of household, 13 children, including two HIV / AIDS orphans
• Margaret reads her report: She had a friend who she visited every day. She saw that this friend was doing better and better. The friend invited her to join the group. With his inspiration she finally did. She received training on bookkeeping, planting, harvesting and nutrition. She became access to seeds and began to grow them.
Benefits /achievement:
• At first producing for subsistence, now doing farming as a business
• Household income improved
• She is able to educate children
• She got a loan to buy fertilizers of national association of agriculture
• She is able to grow vegetables, no need to buy them
• Sickness and expenses for illnesses reduced
• She bought a sewing machine for one of the HIV AIDS orphans, she receives lessons
by a tailor. She hopes that she will contribute to the family income.

Challenges:
• Taking care of orphan children, paying school fees in the future
• Seasonal enterprise, no guaranteed income
• Storage of maize is a problem
• Instruments for agricultural activities are missing
• Husband is local artesan and does not receive regular income. From the tree Mutuba
he makes a material for belts and bags.
• Water is 2km away
Interesting aspects:
• To buy mobile phone she borrowed money from a friend and paid back after harvest
• To go to the next biggest town, Masaka, it costs her 20.000 USX (first walk, than boda boda, than taxi which is a bus)


Vanuit Masaka laat ik jullie weten kennisgemaakt te hebben met CEDO, een organisatie die boeren ondersteunt. Vandaag bezochten we een vrouw wiens man was overleden aan aids en zichzelf en haar kinderen probeerde te onderhouden met 30 kippen. Ook onze groep had een aantal leuke discussies na het tweede bezoek bij een vrouw, wiens man nog drie andere vrouwen had. Maar daarover morgen meer, de boel gaat hier sluiten!
